Eversley CC April Update

23 Apr 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

I sincerely hope you and your families are keeping safe and well during these unusual times not to mention enjoying the sensational weather! Typical that we get an incredible spring and aren't allowed to play cricket...

A lot of you will have recently seen an update sent out about the colts and ladies section from Dave Howorth. To summarise and to share it out to the adult section: In short, we are following government and ECB advice whilst preparing to start playing cricket again as soon as possible. In fact you may have heard on the news that today the ECB is meeting to discuss the 2020 season and although this will likely focus on England and other professional cricket we are expecting the results of their discussions to affect our season too.

The planned works scheduled to improve the outfield have been carried out making cross green look quite special once again. I encourage you to take your daily exercise near the club and post some pics on social media whilst perhaps wearing some club kit to keep all our spirits up, especially for those of us who do not live around the corner from the club.

As you will most likely have guessed, if not already heard, our planned benefit day extravaganza with the PCA has been cancelled along with all other large gatherings. The good news is we have already confirmed a new date of the 4th of June, 2021.

The cancellation of this event along with at least a chunk of the season will of course put a bit of a dent in the club finances, however, thanks to some diligent fundraising and saving in previous years Eversley CC is in a reasonably healthy position when compared to many other cricket clubs around. As a result we currently do not qualify for any ECB support but we are of course pursuing other potential avenues along with and as part of the ESA to keep our organisations on track. This is important as with lots of facilities come large costs, not all of which are suspended with a lack of usage.

I strongly encourage you to stay involved with the club as best you can, perhaps join in the quiz this Saturday evening! Thank you to the Rigg's and the Howorth's for putting them together. Playing cricket in the front room or back garden? post and share your success on our social media pages! Have ideas for keeping us connected, fit and healthy? Get in touch!

Thank you all for your time today and please do continue to stay safe and well as best you can.
