Hello Eversley members,
It is my solemn duty to inform you all that Derek Budd has passed away this week. Derek is survived by his wife Chris, their children Frances and Nicholas and their families.
Derek has been associated with Eversley CC for longer than many of us have been alive and over the years has held many roles at the club including club chairman, committee member and, as many will remember him from more recent times, head groundsman. Derek also played as a wicket keeper-batsman into his seventies showing remarkable dedication to our club and the sport he loved.
Some tributes to Derek describe him as follows:
'...one of the nicest and most humble men I have ever come across and an absolute joy to have known and played cricket with' ; 'Derek was truly one of the Eversley heroes: a top cricketer, clubman and person' ; 'Derek and Chris have given a massive amount to Eversley cricket and the ESA too over so many years. Derek will be sorely missed and the title as the second Baron of Eversley should stand for all time as groundsman, committee man, chairman, wicket keeper and outstanding cricketer to the highest standard of club cricket.' ; 'a very special true Eversley man that represented the ethos of what our club is all about.' ; 'He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word'
The club will be paying tribute to Derek in future but in the mean time should you wish to pass on condolences or share memories then please get in touch with us either in reply to this email or via social media.
