Pause to reflect on 2020

02 Oct 2020

Hello everyone,

I sincerely hope you and your family are staying safe and well during these troubling times. Certainly we as a club were incredibly grateful for all your contributions to this strangest of seasons. Although we were hoping things would be back to 'normal', clearly that wont be the case just yet.

We the administrators are taking the opportunity to take stock and reassess our goals and wishes for the future. For all the amazing cricket and community spirit we saw this summer we have a lot to learn and develop on both Cross Green and Fox Lane over the winter. As we do so it is important to try to make light work through the use of many hands. If you have benefitted from the ECC facilities this summer and have any experience or interest in managing contractors, running or developing buildings and equipment then we would be very interested in hearing from you. The club and the wider sports association rely on the indoor centre and bar etc. for both income and our community spirit, if you have any spare time and are interested in ensuring their success please drop me a note at:  jonnylast1986@aol.com

Although the future looks different to what we expected, we are still pursuing our ambitions! Specific projects we are looking at include a new scoreboard/shelter for Fox Lane, a water borehole to help with keeping the outfields green, developing practice nets (existing and potentially a new set...) and slightly longer term include the re-development of the Cross Green changing rooms. We the administrators encourage you to consider contributing to any of these either through helping organising them or through backing them financially. We know we have already asked a huge amount of you all and we are so very grateful, hopefully this summer showed you what can be done when we come together so if you are lucky enough to have either time or monetary wealth I promise that any you share will be worth it. If this appeals to you, Joe Howorth our sponsorship secretary or I would be very keen to hear from you and we also have the following facility if preferred. (Joe can be contacted through the website or via our social media)

With the current restrictions we are unlikely to be hosting a players' supper or an AGM in person but ideas are being generated for online versions of both, please watch this space for details in time.

One of my goals for 2020 was to increase communication and transparency of how the club was being run. As such, I welcome any and all feedback on this message, our future plans, how this season has gone or the club in general. I have said it before and will say it again repeatedly, it is a privilege to be chairman of such a great club and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
