2021 Junior Presentation Day

26 Sep 2021

For those that couldn’t make it to our Junior Awards Presentation you missed a lovely event, well attended and blessed with some really nice late summer sunshine (unlike the rest of the season !)

In addition to the individual team awards the Junior section awards were as follows :

The Geoff Bundy Award :

This is an award for contribution to Eversley Colts cricket over a sustained period and went to Carl Reis who in addition to coaching for 7 years from U9 to U15 with his son has been “recycled” and has been coaching the U9s. Carl has also been a key contributor “behind the scenes” notably in organising a number of Presentation days in the past.

The Sally Hartle Award :

This award is for an Eversley junior who shows exceptional passion and enthusiasm for cricket, prioritises team work and “looks out” for his/her team mates, has a strong desire to listen and learn and shows respect to all those involved – to coaches, to their team mates and to the opposition.

This year’s award went to a very well deserving Archie Blackman.

Eversley Colt of the Year :

This award whilst taking note of performance with Eversley adult cricket and County cricket is focussed on performance for Eversley Junior cricket.

This year’s award went to an U13 boy who started cricket at Eversley perhaps of a slightly shy and anxious nature but has developed incredibly over the last 5 years driven by a passion for playing as much cricket as possible cricket at any level, standard or age group taking him from U9c cricket through to U15a cricket.

He has developed into a very talented fast bowler and aggressive batter (he managed to lose a few balls that disappeared over the clubhouse!).

This year he has played for Eversley adult 6th, 5th & 4th teams and has made great strides as part of the Hampshire County set up.

The slightly shy and anxious U9 is now a near 6 foot, confident 13 year old determined to progress his cricket development, has Eversley CC in his DNA and has a desire to take on the opposition whether at Eversley Junior, Adult or within the County set up.

This year’s Colt of the Year award went to Ollie Cummings.

Key Team Achievements ;

North Hampshire have yet to announce the Winners & Runners Up but from the current website status it looks like as follows :

U13s :

  • U13As joint winners of the Cup

  • U13Cs Runners Up of Div 3

U11s :

  • U11A team got through to the semi-final of the Hampshire County Cup representing North Hampshire

  • U11A team - Runners Up in Div 1

  • U11A team - Runners Up in the U11 Cup

  • U11B team – Runners Up of Div 2

U9s :

  • Joint winners of Division 1

  • Winners of Division 3

  • Winners of the U9 Finchampstead tournament

We would have had c. 40 juniors at County winter training if they had gone ahead and we had more than 20 in the County summer squads.

Within Eversley adult cricket something like 70% of the players are either previous or current Colts, the growing number of Colts playing adult cricket has meant we fielded a fifth competitive team for the first time and on occasions even a 6th team.

Our club coach Lewis Sharp who started as an U9 at Eversley made his debut for Berkshire CC and two of our U15s Ben Salter and Eddie Campion having progressed from Berkshire to Middlesex and then to Middlesex Academy were selected to play in the Bunbury Festival which is a tournament for the “best of” U15 major county players and is a path well trodden by England players. Both made very significant contributions to our Eversley 1st team who were winners of Division 2 and will play in Division 1 next year.

I won’t go through the full speel that I gave on the day, but suffice to say that roll back to the winter with no indoor training, a bleak outlook as to cricket this summer and then getting to an outdoor season that ran from early April to end of August with a junior membership of 200 and having played c. 150 competitive games Eversley junior (and adult) cricket is in a very good place.

And as always none of this is possible without a fantastic team of volunteers.
