Junior Members - 2021 Season Update

15 Feb 2021

Hello all Junior Members,

It feels like we have all been in hibernation these last few weeks and whilst we have to wait until w/c 22nd Feb for the Government’s update in terms of a release from lockdown it feels like a good time to give you a quick update from Eversley.

We obviously were unable to start Indoor Winter training which normally runs from January until the end of March/early April depending on Easter dates. It would seem very unlikely that we will run any sessions but let’s see.

Looking ahead to the summer season, we would normally start outside training late April and competitive matches would start end of April/beginning May. The North Hampshire League in which we compete have advised that at this point they are planning to start the matches two weeks later than normal in mid May with the league season still finishing end of July but with the Cup competitions played in August. This is based on allowing clubs & players 2 to 3 weeks training to prepare for the season. They are requesting that all clubs must advise their number of teams by age group by the end of February and all fixtures are to be sorted by mid March. This seems like a sensible plan and it’s great that the League is planning & setting things in motion for this.

Based on this and clearly subject to the Government’s & ECB’s position (and the British weather) our plan will to be start outdoor training mid April, a week or so earlier than normal.

In addition, to get things moving & kick starting the season we are looking at two other initiatives :

  • A programme of online coaching courses provided by Lewis Sharp our Club Coach during March.

  • Cricket camps over the Easter holidays

We will provide further updates on the Online course in the coming days and on the Easter camps & Summer season in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, for those that haven’t as yet completed their 2021 Membership applications – can you please do this ASAP.  This is particularly important to enable us to gauge how many teams we should be entering into the North Hampshire League, which we need to do by the end of this month.

I hope that you are all well in these difficult times & that we can all begin to look ahead to better times this Spring/Summer.

Best regards

Dave Howorth
